MEDIA
In simple terms the pond filter contains media on which a large amount of specific bacteria grow. These bacteria are required in order to digest the pollutants created by fish bodily wastes building up in the pond water. Think of the bacteria as clinging to all possible surfaces in the pond filter box. This means the more surface there is then the greater the space for the bacteria to cling to and the more the amount of bacteria there can be.
Illustrated imediately below are two of the most popular types of modern Polyethelene (PE) media available.
Illustrated left above is the ployethlene (PE) Bead media as used in all modern bead filter applications.
To the right above The ever popular Biocell media.

This media has been used world wide for many years in fish farming and waste water treatment, and has been scientifically tried and tested.
Due to chaotic movement of the media, the process is self-cleaning and requires no maintenance. This allows filters to reach optimum effectiveness without the disturbance of periodic maintenance, avoiding unnecessary loss of bacteria within the filter preventing high levels of ammonia and nitrite within the water.

 Kaldnes Moving Bed process, which has been scientifically tried and tested in fish farming and waste water treatment for over 10 years, is now available to fish keepers and is exclusively distributed worldwide by Evolution Aqua.
Due to chaotic movement of the Kaldnes K1 media, the process is self-cleaning and requires no maintenance. This allows the filter to reach optimum effectiveness without the disturbance of periodic maintenance, avoiding unnecessary loss of bacteria within the filter preventing high levels of ammonia and nitrite within the water.

 Since the development of the Kaldnes moving bed process and its successful introduction into the waste water treatment industry in 1991, Kaldnes K1 media has become an industry atandard throughout the world.
However Kaldnes have not been idle and they have continued their extensive R+D programme to further improve the efficiency of their process over the last 12 years.
The Bio Chip is the result of this R+D and is much more that just a different shaped media.
